The biggest thing that attracted me to this book was that it had a woman as a super hero and more so it was set in India. Having read the Twilight series, there is nothing more that I could have asked for other than reading a book with vampires in it and an Indian Super heroine fighting against them!

About the
author
Adi grew up reading fiction books by flashlight, hiding under the
covers, pretending to be asleep. While it would certainly affect his
academic life the next day, he did go on to get degrees from Stanford
University and Harvard University, so it was not all that bad.
Somewhere along the line, a poetry book and a minor textbook were
published. He wishes he could withdraw all copies of said poetry book
from the market. At the time, it was poignant, but now it is just
embarrassing.
He’s always given more credit for his successes in life to those
late-night reading habits of years ago than to the high-school academics
he trudged through, and he yearned to write one of those books himself.
Deeply impressed by the vast religious history of India, he could not help but pick this topic for his first novel.

Me thinks
Whoa! Was the first reaction that came to my mind after I finished reading this. Spirituality, vampires, super heroes, action, love, romance friendship, emotions, family values, death, revenge , politics and religious values all rolled into one is what this book Tantra by Adi is all about.
The main character Anu is an Indian living in US. She is a professional guardian known to kill the most dangerous vampires. An unexpected death of a loved one brings her to New Delhi to take revenge. Here she is caught amidst the Indian melodrama of arranged marriages much to her dismay. She has to make a choice of giving into the eternal pressure of getting married or continuing her battle to find the killer.
It is an exciting read as we accompany Anu on her journey till the end as she braves many dangers lurking around her not to forget the probable grooms she is supposed to meet as arranged. The Vedic insights into few rituals and beliefs is truly commendable. The author has done the research very well and the historic details have been highlighted very well. It is like being on a roller coaster ride where you don't know which direction will it turn next. You keep expecting only to be taken by surprise as you see the sharp turning delving deeper and deeper into the hidden secrets.
Though there were some places where the narrative got a bit boring and felt stretchy taking away the excitement from the description. But only for sometime as after that it was full throttle as the author takes us on a neck break speed till the end. Maybe that was the style of the author to give us a break in between for a while between heavy details of Vedas and other things.
Overall an interesting read, though not recommended for one and all. Recommended for people who enjoy reading vampire stories and action novels.
