Houses aren’t refuges from history. They are where history
ends up.

‘Me’ Thinks
The most striking feature of this book is its index where
the chapters are named on various parts of the house. This reflects the immense
amount of research done by the author behind the work and the result is there
for each one of us to see.
The author felt that a lot was
being written about the battles in history rather than on the people living in
history; people who stayed in beautiful houses, had families, and filled the
rooms with love and laughter. At home,
is an attempt to write about beautiful houses where people become someone from
anyone. The vivid descriptions with photographs and sketches make the entire
book come alive in front of your eyes as you live in that house described.
I have always attached the word
“sense of belonging “to houses. My biggest dream till date is to own a house of
my own, however small it is and name it Basera (A habitude). I could relate to
a lot of things described by the author in this book as home for me always
meant memories both good and bad. It never meant only brick and mortar. My
search for my own habitude is still own as I am looking forward to create my
own share of memories there under a roof and a piece of land I can call my own,
eventually passing it off to my next generations as a memoir.
A beautiful book, well described
and wonderfully narrated for the reader to actually time travel to all the
places described and live that moment in reality!
