From time immemorial, people have searched for definitve responses to questions such as: Who am I? Where do I come from? Does God exist? What is the essence of my relationship with Him?

Gian's thoughts are an amalgam of Science, Spirituality and Philosophy. He Believes that once we discover our true selves, our lives can be fred from stress, depression and misery. The core of this series is based upon the absolute reality of life - Oneness between the Self and the Universe.

About the author

Gian Kumar was born into a traditional Hindu family, in Burma (present-day Myanmar). From childhood, his life held paradoxes which he struggled to understand. While he was educated at a Christian boarding school which observed strict religious practices, these were diametrically opposed to the Hindu traditions and customs which were the norm when he went home for the holidays.

A thinker by nature, the inherent confusion and dogmas underlying religion, gradually impelled him towards spirituality.

Today, he is deeply grateful for a journey filled with opportunities to learn about existential riddles such as: Who am I? What is my purpose in Life? Is God an illusion? Gian hopes to share his own experiential learnings with others through the medium of his books.

Me thinks

This book was like an eye opener for me. Though it didn't have anything drastically different than what we usually read in most of the spiritual books, the thing that sets this book apart is its language. The author has used very simple and easy to connect  with language and made a place for himself in the hearts of the readers.

It took me long to finish this book because it is not a light read, it is something that you need to dwell upon and that is what I did after every chapter. Since last few weeks I had made it a practice to read one chapter before going to sleep every night and think about it before falling asleep. It made me think a lot about everything around me including life at large. It sometimes gave me dreams about things I had thought I didn't recollect anymore. I was surprised at the way my mind was reacting to things after reading this book. If anything I can clearly vouch for the fact that this book brought out the conscious mind of mine more actively as it made me see things more in depth around me neutrally as a third person rather than someone who is a part of it and is experiencing it.

Kudos to the writer for the same!

Over all a highly recommended book and not only this, the whole series by the author purely for the research that each and every word of the book speaks about. This is the key to life!

Foodie Verdict

This book is like kesar pista jalebi - dripping sweet and amazingly delicious!

Book Review: Desiccated Land by David Lepeska

ISBN: 978-9395481205  Genre: Non-fiction Publisher: Vishwakarma Publications  Bringing together his experiences as a journalist and a keen observer, David Lepeska writes a raw and gut-wrenching book on Kashmir. Part memoir, part travelogue, and part reportage, Desiccated Land is a page-turner.  The book starts by tracing the history of the region along with his own history, as a student who was dimly aware of the history of Kashmir and the turmoil it has been causing for centuries between India and Pakistan. Lepenska takes us to Nilamata Purana ( likely written in the 7th century ) which tells us the story leading to the birth of this region. He also shares an alternate possibility of the word being derived from a lake ‘Mira’ named after Vedic Sage Kashyapa.  His first visit to Kashmir closely followed by his second (and much longer) visit as a journalist working for the Kashmir Observer after the 9/11 attacks, make for an interesting read. Lepeska had questions, a lot of them. An

Louella is a Christian, Binaifer, a Parsi and Shalini, a Hindu. The novel’s main plotline surrounds Shalini who has fallen for an impetuous student activist, Bhagu. Where does his desire to help the less fortunate lead him? The challenges are many - Shalini’s tradition bound family, the couple’s youth and inexperience and the travails of life in Mumbai, a city the girls love but know, is fraug
