About the author

Radhakrishnan Pillai, founder-director of the Chanakya Institute of Public leadership (CIPL), has represented India in various national and international conferences and has taught at educational institutes in Germany (Heidelberg, Cologne), UK (Oxford, Cambridge) and India (IIT, IIM and IISc). His best-selling book Corporate Chanakya is used by business schools around the globe. Pillai received the Sardar Patel International Award in 2009.

D. Sivanandhan, former Director General of Police, Maharashtra, is one of India's most highly regarded IPS officers. He has been instrumental in rebuilding the defenses of Mumbai after attacks in November 2008 and has served as member of the special task force in the National Security Council Secretariat. Currently, he serves on the board of several companies and is the Chairman of Securus First India Pvt. Ltd.

Me thinks

I love Jaico’s self help and inspirational series plainly for the beauty they are. This book is a gem in its collection for one it is written by one of the most prominent names in IPS officers and two the way the author has dealt with the whole subject is surely mesmerizing.

I have always held Chanakya in very high regards and this book just made me place him a notch higher. In this book the author has made theory meet practice in order to give the readers an experience of a lifetime. It is a thrilling experience to read this book as you turn page after page in an attempt to understand what a true leader is all about.

Overall a recommended book for them who love reading such inspirational books.

Book Review: Desiccated Land by David Lepeska

ISBN: 978-9395481205 Genre: Non-fiction Publisher: Vishwakarma Publications Bringing together his experiences as a journalist and a keen observer, David Lepeska writes a raw and gut-wrenching book on Kashmir. Part memoir, part travelogue, and part reportage, Desiccated Land is a page-turner. The book starts by tracing the history of the region along with his own history, as a student who was dimly aware of the history of Kashmir and the turmoil it has been causing for centuries between India and Pakistan. Lepenska takes us to Nilamata Purana ( likely written in the 7th century ) which tells us the story leading to the birth of this region. He also shares an alternate possibility of the word being derived from a lake ‘Mira’ named after Vedic Sage Kashyapa. His first visit to Kashmir closely followed by his second (and much longer) visit as a journalist working for the Kashmir Observer after the 9/11 attacks, make for an interesting read.
