Background to the Many Lives Universe

Me thinks

Call it novelette, novella or a short story what doesn't change is the magic this story holds. Primarily revolving around Maya and her search for her roots this book is high on emotions and drama. The hurt she undergoes on knowing that she is adopted and then the quest to find her real biological family ensures that Maya embarks on an adventure which changes her life. By the end of the book you develop a deep bond with Maya so much that you just want to silently hug her for all that she has been through and appreciate her strength.

Maya's confusion as a teenager, her mannerisms and attitude towards people around her and lastly her gusty approach to it is something that makes you in awe of her. Having lived in Mumbai I love the way Laxmi manages to bring it to life in the futuristic world. Her imagination is vivid and ensures that I am enthralled beyond words. This book is a pure joy to read and Maya has now become one of the most endearing characters in the Many Lives series for me till now.

I would recommend NOT to miss this one!

ISBN: 978-9395481205 Genre: Non-fiction Publisher: Vishwakarma Publications Bringing together his experiences as a journalist and a keen observer, David Lepeska writes a raw and gut-wrenching book on Kashmir. Part memoir, part travelogue, and part reportage, Desiccated Land is a page-turner. The book starts by tracing the history of the region along with his own history, as a student who was dimly aware of the history of Kashmir and the turmoil it has been causing for centuries between India and Pakistan. Lepenska takes us to Nilamata Purana ( likely written in the 7th century ) which tells us the story leading to the birth of this region. He also shares an alternate possibility of the word being derived from a lake ‘Mira’ named after Vedic Sage Kashyapa. His first visit to Kashmir closely followed by his second (and much longer) visit as a journalist working for the Kashmir Observer after the 9/11 attacks, make for an interesting read.
