The Perfect Groom by SumeethaManikandan
The Blurb
Very little has gone right in Nithya’s young life. So, when a proposal from a young, handsome NRI comes along, her mother jumps at the opportunity and packs her daughter off to the US with her perfect groom.
Nithya seems to have settled in with Ashok, ostensibly happy, if as yet childless, in her new life. When an old flame comes back into her life, however, the cracks in her perfect marriage begin to show…

The Author's Thoughts
An author and a freelance writer, SumeethaManikandan has been writing for many years now. After working in dotcom companies, like Sulekha for over a decade, she started freelancing from home.
Her debut novella, 'The Perfect Groom' was initially written in a script format, which was later converted into a novella for Indireads. The Perfect Groom touches a taboo subject that is most often shrouded in secret whispers and exclamations in the tambrahm community. Inspired by a real anecdote, 'The Perfect Groom' is in parts the true story of a girl who rose above myriad challenges to make her own way in life.

Me thinks
In our country marriage is considered to be the most important decisions of life – the most because the moment a girl child is born the next worry is immediately about her marriage. Is she fair, good looking enough? When will she learn the household chores? How much do we need to save for her marriage? The list is endless making the girl feel as if she is born to get married.
This is exactly where the book makes a beginning. Somewhere between the need to get married and the desire to be loved is where the heroine of this story Nithya exists. She could be you, she could be me or for that matter any young girl in our country who is confused about what is that she wants, not from life but from herself. Unable to find an answer she gets married as per her parents’ choice only to bump into an old flame later and make her question her decision.
I believe the word perfect is the most misused term in the dictionary. What is perfection? Your definition of perfection could vary from mine and hence there can never be one perfect thing that exists for there will always be at least someone who finds fault with it. Like ways though every parent likes to have a perfect groom for their daughter, the definition of perfection is something that can be or cannot be met with.
I loved the charactersketch of Nithya the most in this book. She comes across as someone who is so relatable, a typical girl next door making me connect with her instantly. I enjoyed the way the author has given her some traits which in a way define her very nicely.
I would also like to add the author is a keen observer of life, for she has picked some wonderful nuances which add to the beauty of this story. Usage of lucid language with a smooth narrative make this book a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Recommended for people who enjoy light reads and chick-lits purely for the interesting story line the author has managed to conjure.
