Alexandria Moreno--clever, sexy, ambitious and, at times, self-destructive. She blazes a path from Texas to Los Angeles at the dawn of the 1980s to make her dreams of becoming an A-list Hollywood film director come true. She and her best friend arrive in Los Angeles with little more than hope and the determination to make it big. Alex, a beauty as dark and mysterious as her scarred heart, stands at the bottom of the Hollywood mountain looking up, fighting for her chance to climb to the top. Will her quest to live fast and take no prisoners on her way to success destroy her in the end?
All That Glitters is a women's fiction Jackie Collins-type saga that introduces a strong, driven Latina heroine at the center of a rags-to-riches story spanning a decade of action. Along the way, Alexandria walks the fine line separating ambition and self-destruction, and discovers that some sacrifices will cost her everything.

About the Author
Liza Trevino's an author whose time as a Hollywood Jane-of-all-trades has given her an insider's view to a world most only see from the outside, providing the inspiration for creating a new breed of Latina heroine. In pursuit of adventure and a PhD, Liza moved to Los Angeles where she racked up quite a collection of Hollywood jobs, including script girl, producer assistant and production assistant. These experiences, along with her formative years spent on the I-35 highway connecting San Antonio, Austin and Dallas, combine to conjure a new kind of Hollywood rags-to-riches story.
Me thinks
I fell in love with the cover of the book in an instant - it has oomph, grace, panache and class all wrapped into one.Apart from the title which is already giving out ample hints to the reader as to what can be expected from the book, the cover sets the tone in more than one ways for me. Having grown up watching Hollywood movies , each one of us at some point or time has felt awed by their lifestyle and envied it even if its for a moment. The fame, money, success, hopping countries, shopping endlessly, wearing brands and being able to buy all that you want to - who doesn't want such a life.
Well this book promises to shatter that myth which we might have harbored in our hearts till now. The story shows us the ugly side of the life of an aspirant in Hollywood. The plot is the usual rags to riches story but what sets it apart is the treatment. In this case, the lead character Alex doesn't dream of becoming an actress but her dream is to be behind the cameras and direct movies. It is the price which she has to pay for her dreams that forms the whole story.
I loved the strong character of Alex from the beginning. She seemed like a lady who knew what she wanted and at what terms. She wasn't one to compromise on anything. She wanted nothing but the best, and refused to settle down for anything less than that. The narrative takes us through the various pitfalls she comes across on her journey to the top and how she faces them. The question is does she over come this all and reach her goal?
The author's language throughout the book is one that of comfort. She is not only comfortable writing about the world which she is familiar with, but she also ensures the reader is at comfort while reading the book. It does excite you, in the sense you are curious to know what happens to Alex, if she succumbs as one of the aspirants who come daily to Hollywood with dreams in their eyes but never make it. Or does she have the fire in her to set things rolling for her despite all odds.
In a way this ambiguity is what I loved the most about the book. The character is flawed, in the sense she is not perfect and doesn't behave in a particular manner which is expected in books. She is like one of us, unsure, confused , impulsive, dreamer and believer. The grey depicted in the cover is clearly replicated in the whole book with no right or wrong, a huge grey area of life where truth merges beautifully with lies.
Overall, quite an entertaining read I would recommend to readers who enjoy reading fast paced books with such backdrop.
