Life is a supernova of emotions, a multi-colored extravaganza and a celebration of colors that carve a way for us to be "expressive". These colors often vary from situation to situation. They may be vibrant, bright and attractive, or even bland and gloomy. Nevertheless, they invoke the soul from within and portray the various dimensions of life. Come and explore the various shades of life - from the lighter tones of friendship and love to the murkier hues of revenge and murder - of human beings, of how their personalities and their situations mould them into their real selves - in this anthology of prose and verse, from authors across the world, Shades of Life.

Me thinks

After having reviewed the poems in yesterday's post I move on to the prose, 6 at a time:

1. My friend Mrs. Kutty by Gunjan Mishra

Simple characters and a very simple story with a strong narrative that gives you goosebumps as you reach the end of the story. What works for this story is its simplicity in everything from the plot to the characters to the narration. The author has taken a slice of life and served it to you on a platter without playing too much with it and retained its authenticity ensuring you have a very entertaining read.

2. Silent Offering by Purba Chakraborty

Having read this author's previous works I can confidently say that she retains the magic of her writing clearly across her work. Her strength is heart tugging narrative with strong female characters who are struggling to find the real meaning of life with the chaos around them. I like the way her heroines are always very strong and connectable. They don't seem fictitious at all, they look like they can be me, you or anyone we know around. Yet another soul stirring from her was a thrill to read as it made me smile at the end.

3. Rangeelo by Vibhuti Bhandarkar

With liberal doses of regionalism and local language this story was really a peppy read. This story had a tune to which a reader is bound to move till the last word. The ending was a huge surprise. I was honestly not expecting this as I progressed with the story. In all honesty now that I have known it completely I feel no other ending would have been befitting for this piece. It is a true work of art in every manner.

4.Down memory Lane by Vidhya & Saravana Kumar

A tender love story that will leave you teary eyed, this one tugs your heart and leaves you choked up. The authors score a brownie point because of the minute detailing they have done in almost every aspect of the story from describing the surroundings to the dresses of the characters. This makes for a very livid description and makes the scene come alive from those pages as you can visualise it all happening before your eyes. A story that has made to the list of personal favourites and To be read again!

5. The colour of healing by Vinay Leo R

This is the author's debut story. I have read his poems on his blog and was pleasantly surprised by his attempt at prose. Needless to add he has done a brilliant job here. In a story that seems to be one straight from the heart it had everything- suspense, thrill, mystery and right dose of emotions making it a page turner.  I like the lucid language he has used throughout the story and engaged the reader till the very end of the story. A personal favourite from the list this one also tops my list of To be read again!

6. The Old man by Diksha Chakraborty

You meet so many people in life and yet fail to notice some of them who are just around you. You perhaps notice them sometimes when you feel their absence. This story is about such absence and such noticing. Once again simplicity plays a very important role here but this story deals with friendships, the need for companionship and the love for life that helps us stay afloat against any tide that comes our way. The author has managed to create some very believable characters ones that seem straight out of life.

Foodie Verdict

Book Review: Palestine Wail - Poems by Yahia Lababidi

In Palestine Wail: Poems , Yahia Lababidi creates a profound and unflinching exploration of the ongoing Palestinian crisis, drawing from his own heritage and heartbreak to reflect on a political and humanitarian catastrophe that has unfolded across decades. This collection, imbued with personal history, political outrage, and spiritual contemplation, serves as both a witness to injustice and a call to humanity. The work’s origins lie deeply in Lababidi’s own roots—his Palestinian grandmother, Rabiha Dajani, was forced to flee Jerusalem at gunpoint, a traumatic event that reverberates throughout Lababidi’s poetry.  As an Arab-American writer, Lababidi is uniquely positioned to speak on the intersection of identity, politics, and human rights. His poetry, both personal and political, draws a clear line between the suffering of the Palestinian people and the complicity of global powers in perpetuating that suffering. Through his words, Lababidi eloquently counters the equation that Zioni
