Behind the Book

This book offers the guidance and teachings of Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi. He has waged a peaceful struggle to stop children from being exploited as labour instead of being sent to school. The power of simplicity and humility in his messages has transformed the lives of millions of children. What he achieved through a single-minded devotion to the cause is testimony of how people can make a difference through seemingly small actions.

What Satyarthi has been saying for the last thirty-six years are not merely words confined to the cause of children; in fact they represent the voice of freedom, anger, compassion and humanity. Words have the power to provoke, inspire and transform. Perhaps these can inspire the readers to work towards a more meaningful life…because words matter.
About the Author

Kailash Satyarthi won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2014.

After completing his graduation in electrical engineering, he began teaching at a university. However, soon the desire to work for the underprivileged children compelled him to quit his job.

The issue of child rights and child labour was not yet a part of public discourse when Satyarthi founded the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) in 1981. The organization has rescued more than 85,000 children from conditions of exploitative labour and modern-day slavery and has been successful in rehabilitating them. He is confident that the worst forms of child labour will be eliminated in his lifetime.

To fulfil his vision of a world free of violence against children, he has established the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to help create and implement child-friendly policies through research, advocacy and campaigning to ensure the holistic development and empowerment of children.

Besides the Nobel, Satyarthi is the first Indian to have been awarded the Defenders of Democracy Award, Medal of the Italian Senate, Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award and the Harvard Humanitarian of the Year Award, among a few others.

This book is a treat for any book lover who enjoys deep and meaningful insights in life. Presented like a personal pocket diary with a hardbound cover and written with beautiful calligraphy skills this book comes across as a collector's edition.

Each and every quote shows you a different side of the author Kailash Satyarthi. Since the time he won the Nobel Prize he has been an inspiration for millions of Indians and with this book we just step closer to the man who is an ideal for an entire generation of people. His views on life, compassion, humanity, freedom, anger and education are truly moving. One cannot help but feel the depth in his words and feel motivated to aspire to be a better human being and give back to the society in every possible manner.

His book is something that can be an ideal gift for anyone because of the sheer beauty of the language. It is also a wonderful guide for anyone looking for motivation. Keeping this book on the bed side and thinking of diving into the inspiration every time I seem to lose hope in the world around.

Strongly recommended, this one is a something that needs to be cherished and proudly displayed on the bookshelf!

Foodie Verdict

Books on Cinema

For a long time, cinema was a world I wasn’t allowed to enter. I grew up in a home where movies were banned. No television, no glimpses of silver screens, and no songs echoing from old classics. For nearly a decade, cinema was a forbidden word like a secret behind a closed door.  And yet, like all things that carry truth and longing, it found its way to me. Stories have a way of finding you, slipping through cracks, whispered between pages, caught in melodies. Sometimes through the corners of borrowed books, sometimes through whispered summaries from classmates, sometimes just through the magnetic pull of posters and songs I wasn’t supposed to hear.
