Delhi, Pathankot, Jammu, Rajouri, Srinagar, Sonamarg, Drass, Kargil, Leh, Hunder...Turtuk

After a long stint as a journalist, amongst others, with India’s foremost English news channel, Times Now, Sabir Hussain decided to chase his life’s most cherished dream... At forty-eight, going on fifty, he picked up his ‘ordinary’ motorcycle one day, and decided to ride alone from Delhi to Turtuk in Ladakh, India’s northernmost point on the LoC. Travelling on a shoestring budget through the historic Mughal Road, bereft of any fancy travel accouterments, living in nondescript hotels and homes of friends, this is a passionate saga of a man who takes you on the ride of your life, traversing 3,200 kms on breathtaking and often dangerous roads.

This is the story of a journalist-traveler who not only succeeds in riding to places where few dare to, but also lets you into the politics of Kashmir, straight from the mouths of ordinary people with extraordinary resilience and hope in their hearts. Battlefields & Paradise makes you feel that the most difficult things in life, are simply the least complicated...

Me thinks

Ever since I have completed a travel writing course myself before embarking on a solo travel adventure across countries and oceans I have discovered a new found love for travelogues. Hence if you notice I have begin reviewing also more travelogues in the recent times. This was more such travelogue which I read with great interest and enjoyed till the last word of it.

Though this travelogue is of a different kind, wherein it isn't about soul searching or rediscovering life only but also about the political conditions of our country and how they affect the day-to-day lives of the citizens. The author's journalist background is reflected in his writing, especially in the descriptions of certain places and situations. The narrative is not dull like those documentaries which are shown on news channels, rather they are alive with activity and action all till the last page. There were some stories he shared of common people which were very poignant and heart rendering. Sometimes in our day to day lives we tend to forget about the less fortunate for whom the daily existence in itself is a challenge and they still do that with a smile. The author brings forward the stories of these people, making them our day to day heroes.

I really enjoyed his description of places, it made me relive my own trip to Ladakh and also brought back memories of all the wonderful people I had met there on this journey. Their simplicity striking through the pages. I would strongly recommend this book to all travel lovers in India as it gives you a beautiful insight into what is considered as one of the most beautiful places in India and a dream destination for all adventure lovers. This book is like an adventure itself as it feels as if you are sitting with the author on his bike, while he takes you around the places telling you the stories.

Foodie Verdict

This book is like Greek Avocado Sandwich - Fully loaded with all goodies making it a complete package of entertainment and adventure!

Book Review: Palestine Wail - Poems by Yahia Lababidi

In Palestine Wail: Poems , Yahia Lababidi creates a profound and unflinching exploration of the ongoing Palestinian crisis, drawing from his own heritage and heartbreak to reflect on a political and humanitarian catastrophe that has unfolded across decades. This collection, imbued with personal history, political outrage, and spiritual contemplation, serves as both a witness to injustice and a call to humanity. The work’s origins lie deeply in Lababidi’s own roots—his Palestinian grandmother, Rabiha Dajani, was forced to flee Jerusalem at gunpoint, a traumatic event that reverberates throughout Lababidi’s poetry.  As an Arab-American writer, Lababidi is uniquely positioned to speak on the intersection of identity, politics, and human rights. His poetry, both personal and political, draws a clear line between the suffering of the Palestinian people and the complicity of global powers in perpetuating that suffering. Through his words, Lababidi eloquently counters the equation that Zioni
