A fast paced thriller is what this book promises to be and not one single dull moment in the entire book. It leaves the reader wanting for more from this series.
A perfect start to a series that is definitely promising and rises the expectations of the readers. When I was approached for a review of this book the only word that made me say YES was "Bombay". I am in love with that city and just the fact that this story is based in that city automatically made it a worth to be read for me.
I breathe that city every time I am there and this book just made re-live that city yet again through its words. Ruby Iyer - the character the more I say about the more it will seem less. She feels like the perfect personification of a elite Mumbaikar. You warm up to her in more than one ways and she is here to stay, she will make a space for herself in your hearts never to leave forever.
The narrative is pretty fast paced and one that will keep the reader engrossed till the end. I lived Ruby Iyer in every word, every page - her anger, her frustations, her joy, her cheer, her victory it felt as if she was a very close friend and I was witnessing her life with my own eyes. And that is what makes this book a superb read! It is UN-put-down-able to put it simply.
Young Adult as a genre is pretty vast and a lot of responsibility lies on the writer to ensure that the storyline and the plot is one that holds the reader till the last page. The excitement that she has managed to build in the climax is spell bounding so to speak for you can actually see that you are rooting for Ruby, cheering for her and wanting it to be a happy ending forgetting for a moment that it is a book and no matter what you do the ed is already predecided.
This ability as a writer is truly commendable and for that I would say Ms. Laxmi Hariharan take a bow :)
A strongly recommended read for all people who love reading such thrilling works that leave you asking for more!
Foodie Verdict
