Book Review: Murder at Castle Rock by Anne Marie Stoddard

Introduction

As the manager and booking agent for Atlanta’s famous Castle Rock concert venue, Amelia “Ame” Grace is ready for the most exciting week of her career: she’s booked three shows and a live DVD-filming for the comeback tour of none other than the eighties Pop Rock Prince himself, Bobby Glitter! Before the rock star can take a bow on the first night, however, trouble steals the show as Castle Rock’s owner takes a deadly tumble from atop the venue’s rear tower. To make matters worse, the police suspect foul play—and all signs point to two of Castle Rock’s own employees. Ame is in a race against time to clear the names of her friends and uncover the truth before the killer decides it’s curtains for her too!

About the author

I used to write stories about the Easter bunny in kindergarten. Next, it was witches. By first grade, I was the only kid in class who could spell "Transylvania" because I was reading Dracula. I've always been a bookworm, devouring each Nancy Drew or Goosebumps book in rapid succession as a child. I wrote a few horror stories and mysteries in middle school as well, and then....nothing. I joined concert and marching band and went on to play the saxophone from sixth grade to my fifth year of college. Eventually, I received a certificate from UGA's Music Business program and began working in promotions radio, at music festivals, and other promotional events.

Still, I never lost my love of reading, and deep down, my love of writing was waiting to resurface. It finally did in 2011 when, after plowing through several mystery series over the summer, I began toying with the idea of a murder mystery set in the music industry. Ten months later, "Murder At Castle Rock" was born, and in September of 2012, my manuscript won the Decatur Book Festival & BookLogix, Inc. writing contest. It will be published in March 2013, and I've begun my work on what will be the second book in that series.

Me thinks

Its been a while I read a murder mystery. So when the author requested me to review her book, Murder at Castle Rock I was solely said yes for the amount of curiosity it had gathered in me and I was surely not disappointed.

Murder at Castle Rock is about Amelia Grace and her sheer grit and determination which helps her solve a murder involving her best friends. Treachery, lust, love and friendship all seem to be at stake when money is in question. A thoroughly enjoyable book purely because of the suspense mixed with love and humour in liberal doses. For a first time, the author has done a commendable job in creating suspense and intrigue making it a page turner of all sorts. A recommended read for all suspense lovers who enjoy murder mysteries as this ensures you a perfect roller coaster ride leaving you with a high feeling!

Books on Cinema

For a long time, cinema was a world I wasn’t allowed to enter. I grew up in a home where movies were banned. No television, no glimpses of silver screens, and no songs echoing from old classics. For nearly a decade, cinema was a forbidden word like a secret behind a closed door.  And yet, like all things that carry truth and longing, it found its way to me. Stories have a way of finding you, slipping through cracks, whispered between pages, caught in melodies. Sometimes through the corners of borrowed books, sometimes through whispered summaries from classmates, sometimes just through the magnetic pull of posters and songs I wasn’t supposed to hear.

Book Review: The Ultimate Reality by Gian Kumar (Book 3)

Introduction ISIN: 978-93-52013-74-6 Genre:  Non-fiction / Self help Publishers:  Celestial Books (Leadstart Corp) Price:  Rs. 199/- (  I got the book from the publisher for a review ) In this third book, the author Gian Kumar has ventured into experiential awareness. His earlier books had shown that in spite of material and digital comforts in the world today, we are still living a life of dualities. Happiness-unhappiness, good-bad, God-devil, all exist side by side. Following spiritual teachings of gurus or masters do not give the much needed solace; there still seems to be something missing. The mind, with its constant chatter and habit of delving into past experiences and anxieties about the future, does not allow to live in the present moment and be aware in the 'now'. By the time our mind can register it, there is already a new 'now' which has taken its place. Here, the author has brought us into a deeper existence, where through experiential realiz...
